Mysha Dewar-McClelland

Mysha first tried Kickboxing in 2007 as a student in Emma Lynds’ class. Initially, she enjoyed the process of getting in shape and feeling fit. But soon after, she appreciated the spiritual benefits of Martial Arts, including the deeper values of self-respect, respect for others, and personal empowerment. Her new path blended perfectly with her journey.

She has spent the last five years working full-time at a rape crisis center in Vancouver supporting female survivors of sexual assault. When a woman recently told Mysha about a violent attack she survived and how it made her want to learn Martial Arts more than ever, Mysha was thankful to offer a small hand in her healing. She considers it an honor to work with people through their vulnerabilities, to see them admit to what they perceive their weaknesses to be, and to see them overcome these things through their own hard work. Helping out along their journey is an essential part of who Mysha is.

She is passionate about connecting the wonderful people she meets with a path to healthier ways of living their lives. She knows that anyone can find themselves in Martial Arts, and works hard to spread the word. Mysha is proud of the work she does, and her strong work ethic is clearly evident.

For Mysha, Elements has been a place where she can push her body with the support of other women. Being able to get fit, strong, and healthy has been one of the greatest gifts that Elements and Emma specifically have given her.

Working for Elements has provided Mysha with an outlet to challenge herself professionally. She constantly feels like a part of something bigger than herself. She hopes to continue connecting people in Vancouver with Elements Academy and their personal Martial Arts path.

Mysha graduated from UBC in 2005 with an Honors BA in English Literature and a Minor in Women’s Studies.
